  • How is bocce played?
    Bocce is typically played on a rectangular court with a smooth surface. The game involves two teams, each aiming to roll their bocce balls closest to the pallino to score points. Players take turns throwing the balls, strategically positioning them to outscore the opposing team. The team with the closest balls to the pallino scores a point for each closest ball.
  • Does the bocce club host tournaments?
    Yes, the HHP Bocce Club hosts exciting league tournaments for members to showcase their bocce skills and compete for prizes. Participating in tournaments is a great way to challenge your abilities, connect with other bocce enthusiasts, and enjoy a competitive yet friendly atmosphere.
  • How do I join the bocce league?
    Joining the HHP Bocce Club league is easy! Simply register on our website to become a member. Once registered, you can sign up your team for league play during the spring or fall season registration period. You may also sign up yourself or your team for tournaments and social events. Stay updated with our calendar information and payment methods.
  • When are matches played?
    League play is divided into divisions where each division plays one match per week on the same day and same time frame each week. Divisions are available Mon-Sat with time slots in the morning, mid-day and later in the afternoon on most days.
  • Do I need to be an HHP resident to join the bocce club?
    Yes, bocce club membership is exclusively for HHP residents, however, member guests may participate in certain events.
  • What is the cost to join?
    Club dues are $10/person for each spring and fall season. Dues are required only for a season in which you participate to accommodate part year residents. A separate annual membership with the Spring Lake Racquet Club is required. A bocce only membership is just $35 per calendar year and included with tennis memberships.   • What is Bocce?
    Bocce is a strategic ball sport that originated in Italy and is now popular worldwide. The objective is to roll or throw bocce balls as close as possible to the target ball, known as the pallino. Players must showcase precision, strategy, and skill to outmaneuver their opponents and score points.
  • Are substitutes permitted to play?
    Yes, one substitute is allowed per match. A sub need not be a member of the club but must be an HHP resident and not a player from another team.
  • What if my team is not available to play a scheduled match?
    If only one team member is available for a match, then a sub may be used to play the game. A sub list will be made available on this website. You can use any HHP resident as a sub, even if they are not on the sub list and must not be a member of a current team. You may also request to reschedule the match with your opponent. Your opponent is not required to reschedule, however, rescheduling is strongly encouraged in our club as our league is meant to be fun. A forfeit will apply to any match not played.
  • Can I sign-up as a single?
    League play is for teams of 2 or 3 people. Singles can request a teammate by completing the Need a Teammate form found under the Forms tab. Singles are then connected to discuss availability and the potential to become a team. Singles may also sign up as a sub by completing the Sub List form also found under the Forms tab. You may be contacted by any team that needs a sub. A sub does not owe the seasonal club dues.
  • Can anyone join the bocce league?
    Absolutely! The HHP Bocce Club welcomes players of all skill levels, including beginners. Our club is a supportive and inclusive community where newcomers can learn and improve their bocce skills through clinics, practice, guidance, and friendly competitions. Note that this is an HHP Club and membership is restricted to HHP residents only.
  • How many members can be on a team?
    A team must consist of 2-3 players, however, only two may play in a match.
  • What equipment is needed to play bocce?
    To play bocce, you need bocce balls, which come in sets of various colors to differentiate between teams. The standard set includes eight large balls and one smaller ball, the pallino. The game can be played on various surfaces, with the primary goal of accurately rolling the balls to score points.
  • How do I pay my seasonal club dues?
    After signing up your team for the spring or fall season you can pay for your team electronically or by check. The bocce club currently does not accept payments on this site. You may submit your dues, $20 for 2-person team or $30 for 3-person team, to club president, John Hupchick, at Venmo: @John-Hupchick Zelle or Paypal: 302-388-0847 or deliver a check to address TBD.   • Can I choose which division my team will play in?
    Short answer is yes, but there are limitations. Teams returning from the previous season will have first choice to remain in their division. Each division is capped at eight teams, therefore open slots are limited in each division. The registration form will ask you for your top three division choices. Our League Coordinator will try to honor all requests while balancing divisions and maximizing participation.
